Amid the global uncertainty, an additional advantage of sexual activity has come to light—it's a natural mood enhancer!
The recent shift to more time spent indoors has led to an inevitable increase in feelings of isolation. A study conducted by the Indiana University School of Public Health, under commission by Pure Romance, revealed that during the initial phase of stay-at-home directives, one-third of adults experienced depression and heightened loneliness, particularly women in their twenties.
Fortunately, there's a silver lining. Many adults have successfully combated these negative emotions by preserving their social and sexual ties. The study noted that those with consistent social and sexual interactions reported better mental health.
Households with young children under five years old indicated a surge in intimate behaviors like hugging and holding hands, while those with school-aged children saw a dip in such activities. This disparity is thought to stem from the different challenges parents faced while juggling remote work and childcare without external support systems.
As we gradually return to safer social environments, the value of personal relationships in maintaining our mental well-being remains unchanged. Reigniting the spark with our partners not only strengthens our immune response but also fortifies our emotional bonds. Therefore, embracing more sexual intimacy can be a strategy to dispel the 'quarantine blues'.
